This halogen type of bulb is constructed within a glass envelope designed to stand up to even the highest temperatures. It is then coupled with a gas, typically argon and nitrogen which is heated by the electricity flowing into a tungsten filament until it reaches approximately 4500 degrees. If you have a faulty bulb, make sure that you don't touch its glass; the salt native to our skin's moisture can damage the bulb and make it unable to resist the internally very high temperature.
